How to Find the Perfect Sink

Follow these five simple steps to find the right sink for your kitchen.

Step 1: Measure Your Cabinets

Measure the length, width and depth of your sink placement to determine how much space will be available for your new sink.

Step 2: Select the Gauge or Material

Choose the sink material that best aligns with your style, cooking and cleaning needs. Fireclay and granite sinks are durable and stylish, while stainless steel sinks come in a variety of platforms and thicknesses — from heavy-duty 16-gauge to standard 20-gauge.

Step 3: Choose Your Installation Method

If you're keeping your cabinets and countertops, a drop-in sink will work best for easy installation, but if you’re remodeling, an undermount sink will give your kitchen a sleek, seamless look. Dual mount sinks can be installed below or above your countertops for more flexibility, and apron front sinks give you added style, but may require more cabinet space.

Step 4: Pick Your Bowl Type

When deciding what type of bowl is best for your kitchen, it’s important to think about your cooking and cleaning habits. Single bowl sinks are ideal for cleaning oversized pots and pans, but double bowl sinks have two separate basins so you can conveniently wash and drain dishes.

Step 5: Determine the Depth

Finally, it’s important to consider all the different ways you may use your sink. Make sure you have plenty of space to handwash large pots and pans, bathe your baby or install a garbage disposal beneath your sink.
