How do I know which showerhead I should buy?
When you’re working on a home improvement project and planning to buy a new showerhead, there are lots of considerations to make. You’ll want to start by figuring out what type of showerhead you want — a fixed showerhead, rain shower or handheld showerhead — and what would work best based on the size and type of shower you have.
Fixed or wall-mounted showerheads attach directly to a shower arm in your wall and are the most popular type with a variety of different spray patterns to rinse, massage and relax. Rainshowers or top-mount showerheads usually feature an enlarged spray face and are mounted on a longer shower arm or from your ceiling to create the soothing feel of rainfall. Hand-held showers connect to a hose, making them the most versatile and adjustable showerhead option that’s perfect for bathing kids and pets. They can often be adjusted up or down on a sliding bar and are easy to detach so you have more flexibility.
Next, you’ll want to find a style and finish that coordinate perfectly with the style of your bathroom. From timeless traditional designs to sleek modern styles, there’s a showerhead to fit everyone’s taste. And nothing brings your bathroom together better than the perfect finish like the modern sophistication of matte black or chrome.
What GPM should my showerhead be?
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) created the WaterSense program to promote water efficiency and established that 2.5 GPM — or gallons per minute — should be the maximum flow rate for showers. All products with a WaterSense label have a low flow rate to help you reduce water use in your home, and all showerheads that are EPA-certified use no more than 2 GPM.
