Eco-Performance Shower Systems

Moen's Commercial Division has created a safe and effective solution for environmentally friendly showering with five new Eco-Performance shower systems. Potential markets include schools, gyms, truck stops, college dorms, office buildings and other facilities. The new systems offer water and energy savings, enhanced user safety and ease of installation. They're also durable and easy to maintain. Here's a closer look at some key performance advantages:

water efficient eco-performance showerheads are durable and easy to maintain

Water Savings

Each of the systems feature Moen's water-saving Eco-performance Showerhead, with a flow rate of 1.5 gallons per minute (gpm): 40 percent less than the industry standard of 2.5 gpm.

The 40 percent reduction in water use will help qualify a building for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification by earning points in the Water Use Reduction category. Reduced consumption of hot water also helps lower a building's overall energy costs.

Eco-Performance shower systems are certified to meet WaterSense® criteria, which are tested to offer water savings at 1.5gpm without sacrificing performance. For instance, unlike some low-flow showerheads that simply restrict water flow, Eco-Performance showerheads feature an optimized spray pattern that preserves the showering experience users are accustomed to getting from traditional flow showerheads.

Safe Showering

The new systems have been engineered for user safety. They include Moen's best-in-class Posi-Temp® valve, which eliminates scalding and prevents shower shock by working with the showerhead to maintain constant water temperatures within a narrow range.

The unique Posi-Temp cartridge offers a broad comfort zone -- between 90 and 110 degrees Fahrenheit — with adjustable temperature limit stops that prevent the user from turning the valve to a full "scalding" hot water setting. When used with Eco-Performance showerheads, Posi-Temp valves ensure that the user's selected temperature will not fluctuate more than 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit.

The valve also meets the performance requirements for pressure and temperature variation required by American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Standard 1016. ASSE 1016 provides a standard for the performance requirements of shower valves paired with low-flow showerheads for pressure and temperature variations.

The benefits of Posi-Temp valves extend well beyond their safety. They're also designed to reduce installation and repair costs with easily accessible cartridges and internal stop valves. Posi-Temp valves allow two showers to be installed back-to-back within the same wall using the same plumbing rough in, thus eliminating the need for re-plumbing water supply lines for one of the showers.

Durable Choices

Eco-Performance showering systems provide the option of wall-mount or handheld showerhead models — or a wall-mount/handheld combination — that are designed to withstand the rigors of daily usage found in commercial buildings. The wall-mount models feature a vandal-resistant, solid brass shell and a durable chrome finish, while the handheld model is constructed of high-impact, chrome-plated polymers that reduce possible damage to walls or tubs.

Both the wall-mount and handheld models feature Moen's easy clean green nozzles. That helps make them virtually maintenance-free. The new showering systems paired with the posi-temp valve comply with the Americans with Disability Act and are also backed by a five-year warranty.

The result, according to a senior product manager at Moen Commercial, is "a safe and eco-friendly experience for every user, every time, while providing building owners with a high performance solution that can reduce overall operating costs."
