A Top Five National Carrier’s Study Reveals Moen’s Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff Significantly Reduces Water Insurance Claim Frequency

Water damage is a pervasive and expensive challenge for homeowners and insurance companies. According to the Insurance Information Institute, non-weather water damage causes over $13 billion in claims annually. These incidents can ruin belongings, disrupt homes, and create long-lasting emotional stress.

Study Focus

Moen collaborated with a top five U.S. home insurance provider to study the impact of the Moen® Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff on reducing water-related insurance claims. The device monitors pipe temperature and pressure 24/7, detects leaks as small as a drop per minute, and can automatically shut off water before catastrophic damage occurs.

Moen and the insurer matched 2,200 shared customers and analyzed their water-loss claim histories before and after device installation.

Study Design

The study matched Moen customer addresses to insurer policyholders. Claims data from 2014–2023 was reviewed, with device installations beginning in 2018. The 2,200 customers represented states such as Georgia, Colorado, Texas, North Carolina, New Jersey, and New York.
