North Olmsted, Ohio… Each year, nearly 200,000 people are injured in the bathroom*, and Moen is on a mission to change that statistic – for the better. During National Bath Safety Month in January, Moen is educating consumers about bath safety to ultimately Make Every Bath a Safe Bath™.
Did you know more than a third of injuries happen while bathing and showering – more than 14 percent occur while using the toilet*? Grab Bars are one of the easiest additions a homeowner can make when creating a safer bath. Moen recommends three key locations to install grab bars: 1) near the toilet, 2) along the showerhead wall and 3) on the back wall of the tub/shower.
Bath safety is important for everyone… not just the elderly. From a young child who often sees a bath as a ‘play area’ to expecting women, whose balance may be off kilter. Using a traditional towel bar, shower door handle or tub spout to get in and out of the bath isn’t meant to withstand a person’s weight, which makes grab bars essential for all ages,” said Chris Nealon, wholesale product manager, Moen. “Moen makes safety stylish with a wide array of beautiful bath safety products, some even incorporate essential accessories, such as paper holders, towel bars and shelves to blend seamlessly into any décor.”
Moen recently exhibited at the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) – the world’s largest international trade event dedicated to the kitchen and bath marketplace – to educate attendees about bath safety:
Darker finishes, such as Oil Rubbed Bronze, against a lighter wall allows those with low vision to more easily find grab bars.
Faucets with lever handles make turning the fixture on and off easier for everyone.
A handheld shower brings the water to you, which helps keep you safer.
Keeping items (like shampoo) within reach on a shelf in your shower helps you avoid slips and falls.
Women are 72% more likely to be injured in the bath or shower than men. Add peace of mind with a shower seat to prevent slips during activities like shaving legs.
Consider three or four globe lights for a well-illuminated, safe bath.
In addition, KBIS attendees had a chance to try on an aging bodysuit that made them feel as if they had aged. It simulated the slow reflexes and difficulties people often have when they get older. Moen also invited participants to try on goggles that affect eyesight to demonstrate the importance of bath safety.
