Introduction

To complete the project, you should first gather the tools and all the parts you will need. The basic steps to complete the installation of your drain assembly are to prepare the mounting area, mount the seat and the drain body, install the pivot rod and the lift rod, and test your work.

You should have the following tools available to you before you start: a flashlight, an adjustable wrench, pliers, safety glasses, plumber's putty, teflon tape, Phillips head screwdriver, and a flat-head screwdriver.

If you are installing this waste assembly as part of a new faucet installation, you will need to return to the tutorial for your new faucet to complete the faucet flushing procedure after you have completed this project.

 

  Before You Start...
 

 
• Beginner - 2 to 3 hours
• Intermediate - 1 to 2 hours
• Advanced - 45 minutes to 1 hour
  Always turn water supply OFF before removing existing faucet.
  Turn faucet on to relieve water pressure and to insure water is completely off.
  Use a penetrating oil spray on the faucet mounting hardware to help loosen corrosion and assist in removing the existing faucet connections.
  Remove mounting hardware using a basin wrench or channel lock pliers.
  Thoroughly clean and dry the mounting surface after removal of your existing faucet.

1. Thoroughly clean and dry the sink surface in preparation for the drain assembly.
2. Place plumbers putty under seat.
3. Drop seat into drain opening in sink.
4. From underneath the sink, slide the bottom gasket, mounting washer and mounting nut onto drain seat and hand tighten.
5. Fit the seal inside the drain tailpiece.
6. Install the tailpiece and hand tighten. Align the entire assembly so that the pivot rod opening is facing the rear of the sink, hand tighten the mounting nut until snug.

If you have a drain plug that is not yet assembled, assemble the three separate parts. Slip the Drain Plug O-ring onto the bottom of the Drain Plug Head Piece, and then and then attach the assembled Head Piece to the Drain Plug Base.

Also, if a Seat Cover was included with your faucet, gently press the Seat Cover down into the seat.

8. Drop in drain plug to prepare to install the pivot rod assembly.and install the pivot rod assembly. You can install the pivot rod assembly in one of the following ways - Vandal Proof to prevent unauthorized removal, or Easy Removal for normal applications.

Place pivot rod seat into the opening at the rear of the drain body.

10. Place the pivot rod into the opening and position the pivot rod through the drain plug hole as shown.
11. For Vandal Proof installation, insert the pivot rod into the hole at the bottom of the drain plug. If you are installing the drain plug for Easy Removal, insert the drain plug into the waste tube and turn the drain plug 90-degrees so that you ensure that the pivot rod is not locked into the hole.
12. Slide the pivot nut onto the pivot rod and thread it snugly onto the drain body, being careful not to over tighten.
13. With lift rod in position on the faucet, insert the end into the lift rod strap and secure with lift rod strap screw.
14. Connect the pivot rod to lift rod strap using spring clip.

Place the drain plug in the full open position, loosen lift rod strap screw and adjust the lift rod height so that the knob clears the faucet. Tighten the lift rod strap screw. Installation is now complete.

If you are installing this waste assembly as part of a new faucet installation, you will need to return to the tutorial for your new faucet to complete the faucet flushing procedure. Press your BACK button so that you return to your faucet installation instructions. You will need to continue and follow the Faucet Flushing instructions.
