Installing the Moen 7980, 7990, & 87980 Series Two-Handle Faucet, INS082C |
|
|
To
complete the project, you should first gather the tools and all the parts
you will need. The basic steps to complete the installation are to prepare
the mounting area, intall the optional spray attachment, mount the faucet,
connect the supply lines, and finally test and flush the faucet.
You
should have the following tools available to you before you start: a flashlight,
an adjustable wrench, pliers, safety glasses, a basin wrench, plumber's
putty, flexible supply lines, Phillips head screwdriver, and a flat-head
screwdriver.

| 1. |
Use a non-abrasive
cleaning agent to thoroughly clean the area under the removed
faucet and allow the area to dry completely. |
 |
 |
| 2. |
For spray models, install
the optional spray before installing your faucet. If you do
not have a spray attachment, skip to step 6. Place a bead of
putty underneath the edge of the spray escutcheon. Install spray
escutcheon through the fourth hole in the sink (the right-most
hole). |
 |
| 3. |
From under the sink,
thread the locknut onto the shank of the spray escutcheon and
tighten by hand. Make final tightening of the locknut with the
basin wrench. |
 |
| 4. |
Feed the spray hose
down through the spray escutcheon. |
 |
| 5. |
Place the deck gasket
over faucet shanks and against the deck plate. To easily connect
the spray hose, bring the spray hose up through the center hole
on the deck. Connect the spray hose swivel nut to the hose nipple
on the faucet before installing the faucet onto the sink. Tighten
the swivel nut with a wrench being careful to not over tighten.
|
 |
| 6. |
Non-spray models should
now attach the deck gasket. Place faucet in position on the
sink with the hot side on the left, with the deck gasket aligned.
Turn the faucet to the side to keep it from tipping over. Be
sure the o-ring is in place on the handle insert, and thread
handle insert into the handle hub. If property installed, lever
handles should rotate forward toward the faucet spout. |
 |
| 7. |
From under the sink,
thread the plastic mounting nuts – large side up – onto the
faucet shanks . Check the faucet position on the sink top, and
then hand-tighten. |
 |
| 8. |
To connect the supply
lines, thread them onto the faucet supplies finger tight. Then
tighten with a wrench by rotating one half turn. |
 |
| 9. |
To avoid damage to
your new faucet, do not turn on the supply valves until you
have followed these flushing instructions. Rotate the handles
to the"ON" position, and remove the aerator of the
faucet. Open the hot and cold water shut off valves under the
sink, and allow the water to run for 15 seconds. Finally, turn
the handles to the off position and replace the aerator. |
